When Tom and Lisa first called me, they weren’t sure what they were looking for—just that they wanted “a little slice of the Northwoods” to escape busy weekends in the Twin Cities.

They loved camping, fishing, and riding their ATVs, but every trip meant finding a rental cabin or staying in crowded campgrounds. They told me, “We just want a place where the kids can grow up making memories outdoors, and where we don’t have to worry if it’s booked or not.”

The Search

We looked at a few different areas, but nothing felt quite right until we stepped onto a 5+ acre wooded lot in Sawyer County. The tall pines stretched overhead, and just beyond the tree line was direct access to the 75-mile Tuscobia Trail—a dream for their ATV and snowmobile weekends.

When I mentioned that Big Chetac Lake, with nearly 2,000 acres of water, was just minutes away, Tom’s eyes lit up. Fishing for musky and walleye had always been on his bucket list.

The Decision

At $39,900, the property was affordable—less than the price of the new camper they had been considering. They realized that instead of renting or moving from campsite to campsite, they could own their own place. A permanent spot for their camper now, and space to build a cabin later.

Life Today

Fast forward a few months, and their weekends look different. The kids race around on the trails, Lisa has her favorite morning spot for coffee under the pines, and Tom is already planning his first deer season on the property.

As Tom told me recently: “This isn’t just land—it’s our future. A place we’ll pass down to our kids one day.”
